The Stupendous Santa Maria in Cosmedin Fountain in Rome

ppd-669a__83545.jpg Archaeologists and restorers on the lookout for pagan and Christian relics in Rome have come across a treasure trove of them in the area of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin. The famed marble sculpture called the Bocca della Verità (Mouth of Truth) can be seen in the portico of the basilica nearby. When the Santa Maria in Cosmedin fountain was built in 1719, it was off the beaten track and generally unknown as a result. It was said that there was nothing worth seeing in this area because it was bleak and abandoned making it an unfriendly place to visit. It was a this time that Pope Clement XI mandated the Italian architect Carlo Bizzaccheri to put up a fountain to modernize the square outside the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin. August 11, 1717 saw the start of the job to lay down the foundation of the church. The first stone to be placed in the foundation was blessed and medals bearing the illustrations of the Blessed Virgin, for whom the church is named, and St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of water, were also thrown in.

Water-raising Tool by Camillo Agrippa

In 1588, Agrippa’s water-lifting creation captivated the interest and approval of Andrea Bacci but that turned out to be one of the very last mentions of the technology. It could be that the Acqua Felice, the second of Rome’s initial modern aqueducts made the unit obsolete when it was attached to the Villa Medici in 1592. Its triumph might have been short but the device conceived by Camillo Agrippa was yet not like anything developed in Italy during the time period that split the contemporary years from classic Rome. Renaissance landscapes of the later part of the sixteenth century happened to be home to works like musical water fountains, scenographic water demonstrations and water caprices (giochi d’acqua), but these weren’t outfitted with water in ways which defied gravitation itself.

The Ideal Multi-Tiered Fountain for your Garden

Fountains with more than one level are very easy to find, and common particularly in gardens. You can see a lot of these fountains in Italy, Spain, and other Southern European nations. Common places to see them are in courtyards and city squares. Impressive carvings can be found on some of the most elaborate tiered fountains, while others have much simpler designs.

Any area can be enhanced with one, although a more conventional setting is sometimes more suitable. If done right, anyone seeing the fountain will think it has been there forever.

Guidelines for Putting in a Garden Fountain

When thinking about where to install your garden fountain, do not forget that you will need somewhere to plug it in and a convenient source of water. Sometimes new owners get so caught up in the romanticism of their new purchase that they forget important details. If you need an extension cord to reach a 120v wall socket, feel free to use one, as conventional power cords are only 12 feet long. A convenient place to get water is vital since you will need to fill your fountain. It is challenging to move water from one place to another. A nearby hose can make filling the fountain a lot less demanding. The ideal setup is with a water fountain autofill, but this has to be attached to an external water line and needs a professional to install it.

A Water Fountain Your Cat Will Appreciate

Whenever your cat hears water flowing in the kitchen, does he come running? Do you find him gulping toilet water or pausing before drinking water from his own bowl? Strange as these behaviors sound, they in fact show a cat’s natural instinct to avoid still standing water. In fact, they do not have a strong natural tendency to hydrate.

In the wild, cats eat meat full of moisture which keeps them adequately hydrated. Consequently, cats do not have a natural craving for much water. Owner's of a household cat, on the other hand, need to make sure their cats get plenty of water because it is an important part of their overall health. Cat fountains are an easy way to provide a water supply for your pet.

Unlimited clean water will always be available to your pet if you install one. Fountains come in many shapes and sizes, so be sure to choose one that best fits the needs of your cat. There are fountains that always have nonstop flowing clean water while others have a basin which refills as your cat drinks from it.
