Anglo-Saxon Grounds at the Time of the Norman Conquest

The introduction of the Normans in the second half of the eleventh century irreparably altered The Anglo-Saxon lifestyle. 5104_xx02_rivierablue__16626.jpg Architecture and horticulture were skills that the Normans excelled in, trumping that of the Anglo-Saxons at the time of the occupation. Still, home life, household architecture, and decoration were out of the question until the Normans taken over the general populace. Most often designed upon windy summits, castles were basic constructs that allowed their occupants to spend time and space to offensive and defensive schemes, while monasteries were rambling stone buildings generally added in only the most fecund, broad valleys. The bare fortresses did not provide for the peaceful avocation of horticulture. The finest example of the early Anglo-Norman style of architecture existent in modern times is Berkeley Castle. The keep is said to date from the time of William the Conqueror. A monumental terrace serves as a hindrance to invaders who would attempt to mine the walls of the building. On one of these terraces sits a charming bowling green: it is covered in grass and flanked by an old yew hedge that is formed into the shape of rough ramparts.

Ways a Fountain Can Make Your Environment More Enjoyable

The movement and sound of water emitted from a fountain have two health benefits: cleaning the air and proving a place of relaxation and tranquility, both of which will improve your quality of life.

Both an indoor and an outdoor garden fountain will reward you in ways you might not even realize. All over the world coastal cities have large populations which may perhaps be connected to the fact that the human body is composed mainly of water. While you could invest in an overpriced beach house or jump in the ocean every day to enjoy the benefits of water, getting a water feature is much easier and less costly!

Your patio, porch, or back yard can be upgraded by setting up an outdoor garden fountain. Even if you are already pleased with your outdoor area, the introduction of one of the many outdoor fountains available will make you appreciate it even more. A terrific idea is to set up one on the wall of your screened porch, or perhaps outside as part of your outdoor decor. Add elegance and the lovely sound of babbling water to your flower bed with a tiered model. The flow of the water in birdbath fountains, as compared to unmoving water, signifies that bacteria and algae will not accumulate in the water, making for fresher water for wild birds. Add the ultimate touch with the tranquil sound of flowing water in your garden.

Garden Water Features: A Beautiful Way to Honor a Special Person

Install a garden fountain in honor of someone you have lost.

Practices that were once prevalent are often ignored these days. Yet most cultures even today build memorials to honor their dead. A lot of people include intimate personal items on a memorial to remind them of their cherished one. A lot of people view backyard garden fountains as wonderful commemorative pieces to their loved ones. Adding personal items such as photos or a nameplate, planting a tree, or holding annual remembrance ceremonies at the fountain will make the garden fountain more unique to your loved one.

People you have lost can be remembered in a nice loving manner with garden fountains. Prosperity and a good life lived can be remembered with the flowing water, which is a figurative representation of those things. Be sure to get a strong, durable, weatherproof garden fountain to create a lasting memorial. You will want to be certain that your memorial will last many years once in place.

A Solar Powered Outdoor Fountain

Are you seeking to beautify your residence? Stop looking! Solar water fountains are the ideal solution - they bring elegance to any home and at the same time add financial value to the property. Solar powered water features can be a better investment versus electric ones because they not only improve one's well-being but they offer other interesting financial perks. Even though there may be a greater cost at the beginning, the long-term investment will make it worthwhile. Because your fountain will not be powered by electrical energy, there will be no need to fret about any power outages.

Running water fountains will lead to a spike in your electric bill. Even though you might not instantly see the short-term benefits, remember that your residence will undoubtedly gain in value in the long-run.

Spending more money on our electric bills is not the only downside - the environment is highly impacted too. The only source of energy used by solar powered water features is the sun making them a “green” option. Using solar power to run a water feature is not only beneficial to our environment but it also heats and cools our homes.

This kind of fountain needs less maintenance than others. Clogs don't occur because there is no motor - which means less cleaning. And this means more personal time for you!

Chatsworth Gardens and its "Revelation" Fountain

The renowned UK sculptor Angela Conner created the Chatsworth ornamental exterior fountain called “Revelation.” The now deceased 11th Duke of Devonshire mandated her, due to her work in brass and steel, to create a limited edition bust of Queen Elizabeth in commemoration of the Queen’s 80th birthday bash. Jack Pond, one of Chatsworth’s earliest ponds, had “Revelation” placed in 1999. It takes the form of four large petals crafted of steel which opens and closes with the water flow, alternately hiding and displaying a gold colored globe at the sculpture’s center. A metal globe painted with gold dust was included into the sculpture, which stands five meters in height and five meters in width. The flower petals move based on the flow of water, making this installation an exciting addition to the Chatsworth Garden grounds.
