Architectural Statues in Early Greece

A good number of sculptors were paid by the temples to accentuate the elaborate pillars and archways with renderings of the gods until the period came to a close and many Greeks started to think of their religion as superstitious rather than sacred, when it became more typical for sculptors to portray everyday men and women as well. Portraiture, which would be recognized by the Romans upon their annexation of Greek society became conventional as well, and wealthy family members would often commission a portrayal of their forebears to be added in immense familial tombs. The use of sculpture and other art forms varied over the years of The Greek Classical period, a time of artistic progress when the arts had more than one goal. Greek sculpture is probably appealing to us all today seeing that it was an avant-garde experiment in the historic world, so it does not matter whether or not its original purpose was religious zeal or artistic pleasure. a-475__61422.jpg

Why a Water Element Can Make Your Environment More Enjoyable

The movement and sound of water emitted from a fountain have two health benefits: cleaning the air and proving a place of relaxation and serenity, both of which will improve your quality of life.

There are many positive aspects to having an indoor or exterior water fountain which you may not even understand. Water makes up a large proportion of our body composition, and populations world-wide tend to gravitate towards coastal areas. While there are many luxurious ways to integrate the benefits of water into your daily life (like investing in a beach house!), a much more accessible solution is to install a water feature in your home.

Your patio, porch, or back yard can be enhanced by setting up an outdoor garden fountain. Outdoor water features can further improve even the most gorgeous space. It can be a lovely addition to the wall of your enclosed porch or outside above the veranda. If you have a flower bed, look into installing a beautiful tiered model there to add a feeling of tranquility. The flow of the water in birdbath fountains, as compared to still water, means that bacteria and algae will not accumulate in the water, making for healthier water for wild birds. Perfect your garden area with the serene sound of flowing water.

What You Will Require for a Garden Water Feature

When considering where to install your garden fountain, do not overlook the fact that you will need somewhere to plug it in and a convenient source of water. The joy of owning one occasionally causes people to skip the technical aspects when setting it up for the first time. If you require an extension cord to reach a 120v wall socket, feel free to use one, as typical power cords are only 12 feet long. Set up your fountain in a place close to a water source as you will need to fill it. Water is challenging to move manually from place to place. If you have given thought to it before installation, having a hose nearby will make the task of filling the fountain much simpler. A water fountain autofill is yet another option, but will call for the help of an expert who knows how to set it up since the water has to go through an external line.

The Extraordinary Santa Maria in Cosmedin Fountain in Rome

Archaeologists and restorers alike have stumbled upon a wealth of pagan and Christian artifacts on the grounds of Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome. The nearby basilica is largely for the marble sculpture known as the Bocca della Verità, (Mouth of Truth) located in its entryway. The location of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin fountain (1719) was not in a well-known area and was, therefore, not oftentimes visited. For the most part, people stayed away from the area because it was a drab and deserted part of the city. As part of a project to revitalize the square outside the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, the Italian architect Carlo Bizzaccheri was instructed by Pope Clement XI to design a fountain. The task of laying down the church’s first stones began on August 17, 1717. The first stone to be placed in the foundation was blessed and medals bearing the illustrations of the Blessed Virgin, for whom the church is named, and St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of water, were also thrown in.

How to Pick the Ideal Spot for Your Water Fountain

It is vital to think about how a water fountain will fit into your garden before purchasing one. Roundabouts and drives are ideal spots for them.

Certain fountains are especially built to lean against a wall. To secure one against a wall, look for a bar or hook on the back made precisely for this purpose. Since the top part of your fountain is unstable on its own, ensure that it is secure against a wall to avoid damage caused by strong winds, wild animals, or other natural threats.

A frequent spot to add a garden sculpture is traditionally in areas where people come together to sit back and enjoy the scenery.
