The History of the Splendid Cascade Water Feature at Chatsworth

The Cascade garden fountain forms a dazzling main feature to the gardens and is situated at the back of Chatsworth House. Twenty-four irregularly spaced stone steps in a series run along 200 yards towards the house and down the hillside. Totally gravity fed, the Cascade too is founded on a 17th century French design. In 1696, this water fountain was created for the original Duke of Devonshire and has stayed unchanged ever since that time. zt_57070013__49058.jpg The Cascade House rests at the top of the fountain where water flows downward. A little building, the dwelling is adorned on the external side with marine creatures in bas-relief. Water pressure to the Cascade can easily be boosted on special occasions, causing the Cascade House to become a part of the Cascade display, as water passes through conduits on its roof and from the jaws of its carved underwater creatures, prior to continuing down the Cascade. The sounds of the water cascading fluctuates as it falls down the Cascades mainly because of the small variance in the size of each and every step thereby providing a great and restful accompaniment to a walk through the gardens. In 2004, Chatsworth's Cascade, was named England's best water feature.

The Far-Reaching Effects of Water Elements

Having a fountain around can enhance your daily life as the soothing sound of the water provides a sense of tranquility, and the movement of the water serves to clean and moisten the air.

You might not even be aware of the degree to which a water fountain, whether inside or outside, will complement your daily life. People around the world are compelled to go to coastal cities and major bodies of water, most likely driven by the fact that our bodies have a high water content.

While you could invest in an overpriced beach house or plunge into the ocean every day to reap the benefits of water, getting a water feature is much easier and more affordable!

Enhance any outdoor area by adding a beautiful outdoor garden fountain. However lovely it already is, your site will be even more beautiful if you add an outdoor water feature from the wide variety available. It can be mounted on the external wall of your house above the patio, or even on the interior wall of a screened porch. If you have a flower bed, consider installing a beautiful tiered model there to add a sense of peace. You will notice lots of birds coming to your garden if you install a birdbath fountain, as the water stays fresher than still water since it is constantly flowing. The enchanting sound of trickling water is the magic touch your garden area needs to become a haven of peace.

Chatsworth Gardens and its Revelation Garden Fountain

Angela Conner, the famous British sculptor, fashioned “Revelation,” the latest addition to the appealing exterior fountains of Chatsworth. She was delegated by the now deceased 11th Duke of Devonshire to make a limited edition bust of Queen Elizabeth, in 2004/5 in celebration of the Queen’s 80th birthday celebration. In 1999 Revelation was mounted in Jack Pond, one of Chatsworth’s first ponds. It takes the shape of four large petals made from steel which open and closes with the water circulation, alternatively camouflaging and revealing a gold colored globe at the sculpture’s center. The sculpture’s dimensions are five meters in height by five meters wide and incorporates a metal globe finished with gold dust. The flower petals move depending on the flow of water, making this installation an intriguing addition to the Gardens of Chatsworth.

A Solar Powered Outdoor Fountain

Do you desire to make your personal space just a little more beautiful? Well, think about adding elegance and value to your residence by installing a solar powered water feature. You get all the advantages of an electrical fountain, as well as other financial benefits and an overall betterment to your health. Despite initial expenses, the long-term expense for this type of fountain is worth it. Electrical power shortages will no longer hinder using your fountain since it will run on the the power of sunlight.

Constant running water fountains will most probably lead to a higher electric bill at the end of the month. Although short-term costs might be more substantial than you had anticipated, don't forget that your home is increasing in value.

Spending more money on our electric bills is not the only downside - the environment is negatively impacted too. Becoming “green” is just one of the advantages of installing a solar water fountain running only on the energy of the sun. Using solar energy to power our homes as well as a water feature is important because it also protects our environment.

This kind of water fountain doesn't need as much maintenance as others.

These fountains need less maintenance than other kinds. Clogs don't occur since there is no motor - which means less cleaning.

And because there is little cleaning to do, you will have more time to enjoy yourself!

Santa Maria in Cosmedin: A Roman Water Fountain Worth Experiencing

Both Christian and pagan articles have been found in large quantities by archaeologists and restorers searching the area of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome. Found in the portico of the nearby basilica one can see the famous marble sculpture known as the Bocca della Verità (Mouth of Truth). Since the Santa Maria in Cosmedin fountain (1719) was situated off the beaten track, it remained relatively obscure. It was said that there was nothing worth seeing in this area, as it was abject and abandoned making it an unfriendly place to visit. It was a this time that Pope Clement XI mandated the Italian architect Carlo Bizzaccheri to put up a water fountain to renovate the square outside the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin. The job of laying down the church’s foundation began on August 17, 1717. Medallions bearing the images of the Blessed Virgin, for whom the church is named, and of St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of water, were thrown in the foundation following the consecration of the first rock.
