The Latest Addition to the Gardens of Chatsworth: "Revelation" Fountain

s-339__42920.jpg The popular UK sculptor Angela Conner planned the Chatsworth ornamental exterior fountain called “Revelation.” She was commissioned by the now deceased 11th Duke of Devonshire to create a limited edition bust of Queen Elizabeth, in 2004/5 in commemoration of the Queen’s 80th birthday celebration. In 1999 Revelation was set up in Jack Pond, one of Chatsworth’s oldest ponds. It takes the configuration of four big petals designed from metal which opens and closes with the water movement, alternatively hiding and revealing a gold colored globe at the sculpture’s center. The sculpture’s dimensions are five meters high by five meters in width and features a steel globe coated with gold dust. This newest fountain is a fascinating addition to the Gardens at Chatsworth because the petals’ movement is completely powered by water.
