Chatsworth Gardens: The "Revelation" Fountain

Created by popular English sculptor Angela Conner, Revelation is the most recent addition to the Chatsworth ornamental outdoor water fountains. The late 11th Duke of Devonshire commissioned her, due to her work in brass and steel, to create a limited edition bust of Queen Elizabeth in celebration of the Queen’s 80th birthday. Jack Pond, one of Chatsworth’s most venerable ponds, had “Revelation” put up in 1999. s-288-pd-168__23630.jpg Taking the form of four large petals that open and close with the flow of water, the steel water fountain alternatively hides and displays a gold colored globe at the center of the sculpture. Standing five meters high and five meters wide, the globe was crafted from steel and then painted with gold dust. This newest fountain is an exciting and interesting addition to the Gardens of Chatsworth, unique in that the movement of the flower petals is entirely driven by water.

Agrippa's Astonishing, but Mostly Forgotten Water-Lifting Mechanism

The compliments Agrippa’s water-lifting invention was given from Andrea Bacci in 1588 was temporary. Just years later, in 1592, the early modern Roman conduit, the Acqua Felice, was attached to the Medici’s villa, perhaps making the technology obsolete. The more plausible conclusion is that the system was forgotten when Franceso di Medici, Ferdinando’s brotherpassed away in 1588, leading him to give up his rank as cardinal and go back to Florence where he obtained the throne as the Grand Duke of Tuscany. It could go against gravitation to raise water to Renaissance gardens, supplying them in a way other late sixteenth century concepts which include scenographic water exhibits, music fountains and giochi d’acqua or water caprices, were not.

The Best Way to Install a Wall Water Fountain

Wall elements can complement any space. The calming sound of the waterfall will de-stress and comfort. People tend to hang wall fountains in any space where folks gather, but most commonly in foyers.

Although the instructions for hanging one are fairly straightforward there will be small modifications depending on the model. Be sure that all the different components are used in building it. Once you connect the base and the top you will then need to connect the pump and the water tubes. The directions should be read first to make sure it is assembled right. You should find the steps relatively straightforward. Be aware, though, that the design you have might require a somewhat different procedure. Another person can be useful to hold the wall fountain in the correct place so that you can mark the wall. The simplest way to ensure it is mounted correctly is to use a level. Draw your marks at both the top and the bottom. Wall features can be mounted in more than just one way. There are slots on the back which can be placed onto the screws you put on the wall. On the other hand, brackets can be fixed to the wall. The bracket alternative is better, specifically for wall fountains that are big and heavy. Determine where the brackets need to be placed and mark the wall as required. Drill pilot holes in the wall for your drywall anchors. Gently tap on the anchors with a hammer to embed them into the wall. Use a cordless drill or a screwdriver to attach the brackets, making sure they are level. The wall fountain is ready to be placed onto the brackets. Be certain that it is correctly straight and not loose. If the alignment is right, it’s time to add some water. Use sufficient water so that the pump is entirely submerged.

Then plug it in and the water will start to move. The water basin should be filled to about one inch below the top edge. The basin will overflow when the pump is shut off if it is too full, so be sure not to fill it completely. Whenever the water is not being pumped, it all settles at the bottom causing the water level to rise. The water will overflow and cause damage if the wall fountain is overly full.

Garden Fountains And Public Health

Berkley, CA people voted for a sugar-sweetened beverages tax in February 2014, the earliest of its kind in the United States. The tax is thought to lower sugary drink intake and boost the consumption of healthier drinks, like water from fountains. Efforts were made to find out the condition of community drinking water fountains in both high- and low-income neighborhoods. By developing a mobile GPS application, specialists were able to gather data on Berkley’s drinking water fountains.

This information was cross-referenced with demographic records on race and income collected from the US Census Community Study database. By cross-referencing the water fountain locations with the demographic information, they were able to determine whether access to functioning fountains was class dependent. The neighboring demographics of each and every water fountain location was made note of, while also deciding whether race or income rates made a difference in the state of repair of each individual fountain. Most of the water fountains were dirty or blocked, in spite of the fact that most fountains worked.
