Public Water Fountains in and Around Berkley, California

The first implementation of a sugary drinks tax in the US came in February 2014, when it was approved by the city of Berkley, California. The tax is intended to lessen sugary drink consumption and augment the consumption of healthier drinks, including water from fountains. The aim of the research was to evaluate the state of community drinking water fountains and figure out if there is a distinction in access to fresh, operating drinking fountains based on racial or economic components. Facts on the city’s drinking water fountains were developed using a GPS created specifically for the research. Demographic data on race and earnings was then assembled using the US Census database. By cross-referencing the water fountain sites with the demographic facts, they were able to ascertain whether access to working fountains was class reliant. Each water fountain and the demographics of its bordering area were studied to reveal whether the site of the fountains or their standard of maintenance showed any connection to income, race, or other factors. The fact that the fountains were working was not a guarantee that they were well-maintained, since quite a few were in need of maintenance and repair.

Ancient Crete & The Minoans: Wall Fountains

Various types and designs of conduits have been unveiled through archaeological digs on the island of Crete, the cradle of Minoan civilization. These delivered water and extracted it, including water from waste and storms. The chief components used were rock or terracotta. Whenever clay was chosen, it was frequently for channels as well as water pipes which came in rectangle-shaped or spherical patterns. There are a couple of examples of Minoan terracotta pipes, those with a shortened cone shape and a U-shape which haven’t been observed in any society ever since. The water availability at Knossos Palace was managed with a strategy of clay piping that was put below the floor, at depths starting from a couple of centimeters to several meters. The pipelines also had other applications including collecting water and conveying it to a main site for storage. Therefore, these conduits had to be effective to: Below ground Water Transportation: Initially this process seems to have been fashioned not quite for comfort but to supply water for certain individuals or rites without it being observed. Quality Water Transportation: Many historians believe that these conduits were used to build a different distribution technique for the palace.

How Feng Shui Turn Your Garden into Place to Relax

When applied to your yard, feng shui design will draw its healthful energy into your home as well.

When adding feng shui design into your yard, even a very small area is adequate. Of course, a large area is fantastic if you have it, but rest assured that feng shui works just as well in smaller spaces as well.

The same tools you employ to incorporate feng shui design into your living space can be used in the garden.

The first part is to know the bagua, or energy map, of your home, as your garden’s bagua will be an extension of that.

Before getting started, make sure you understand the five elements of feng shui so that you can optimize their energy.

The northeast corner of your garden, for instance, connects to personal growth and self-cultivation energy, and Earth is the feng shui element that is important to use it. A Zen garden with some pretty natural rocks is ideal for that spot, as the rocks epitomize the Earth element.

A water feature is a suitable addition to the following feng shui areas: Southeast (money & abundance), East (health & family), and North (career & path in life).
